Kathy Kay (Kennedy) Richardson, 67, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Christus Oshsner St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. She was born June 26, 1953 in Port Arthur, TX to Carolyn Goodwin and her late husband Thomas Larry Kennedy. Kathy was a native of Port Neches, TX.
As a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and Port Arthur Business College, she flourished in business that began in pharmacy. However, she found her skills led her to secretarial work when she moved to Louisiana and began a career with Magnolia Life Insurance Company and later Allstate. She never slowed down in retirement. She began a job most enjoyed as she worked alongside her sister at Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School Library. It was not unusual to see her reading to students, showing them around the library, working the book fairs, and dressing up in character on special days. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and daughter. She loved to laugh and was best known for her smile and kindness to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Larry Kennedy, her step-father, Ray Stefflen, and nephew, Army Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Hartley.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of nearly 30 years, Charles Richardson of Iowa, LA; daughter, Tracey Gross (Jacob) of Broomfield, Colorado; step-sons: Sean Richardson, Eric Richardson, and Wess Richardson; Mother: Carolyn (Bobbie) Stefflen; sisters: Laura Hinojosa (Jonny) of Bryan, TX; Myra Edwards (Emmett) of Bryan, TX and Paula Clemmons (Duane) of Lacassine, LA; grand-daughter, London Gross, nieces and nephews: Lisa Duncan, David Hartley, Bryan Shackelford, Joshua Hinojosa, Nolan Clemmons and Natalie Clemmons. Kathy and Charles were married November 17, 1990.
Above all things was her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She taught Sunday School for many years. She taught Junior Bible Quiz and her teams competed for Glad Tidings Church. She lived the words she taught. Her faith of a mustard seed, moved many mountains in her life.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Simple Traditions of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
