Christmas was a little different this year, traditionally celebrating the Birth of Jesus, we now also rejoice the rebirth of Kaven Kae “KK” Mays into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.
On November 26, 1989 Isaac “Ike” Jr. and Trisha Mays welcomed KK, their red headed brown eyed beauty into this world. From a young age she was full of laughter and spunk, bringing much joy to her family and friends. She was a lifelong resident of SWLA, attended Sulphur High School and graduated Class of 2008.
She lived life to the fullest, laughed often and loved fiercely. She loved being at Toledo Bend with friends and family. Especially after she knew she was safe from the dirty water. She loved the soothing sound of being on the river, whether riding in a boat or just sandbar sitting. She was artistic by nature, holding a good eye and steady hands which allowed her to create beautiful works of art. She attended Our Lady Prompt Succor where she was Baptized and later completing her Confirmation through St. Theresa Catholic Church.
On May 10, 2011 she welcomed the first of her two children into her life, a daughter she named Hollis Grey, then on October 22, 2012 she welcomed her son Hudson Morgan. She loved her children more than anything and cherished every moment spend with them. Birthdays were her favorite, she celebrated the lives of those she loved the most including her own. Each day was delicately planned, whether it was a gift bestowed or a social outing, it had to be perfect! She knew no such thing as a mess- always perfect! She loved being bossy, especially to Kacey and Keely.
KK loved to dance, and could be described as the life of the party, bringing laughter with her anywhere she went. Mardi Gras was her favorite time of year, as a member of the Krewe of Rukkus, she loved stepping to the beat of any music played at gatherings or on the float throwing beads and trinkets to those on the parade route but she loved dressing up for the Annual Ball the most.
On October 25 she was diagnosed with a tumor, later to be identified as Grade 4 Astrocytoma- Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. She took this diagnosis head on, fierce in her quest to overcome it.
Although her life on Earth was only 31 years, the legacy she leaves her family, friends, but most importantly her children, and Kacey and Keely is: family is important, always keep laughter and joy in your life, and be fierce and know that with God in your heart, anything is possible. Life is either a great adventure; or nothing at all. And she was full of adventure!
She was welcomed into Heaven, dancing the Mardi Gras Mambo as she crossed through the pearly gates, by her parents, her grandmothers Lena Abshire-Guillory and Martha J. Mays and her grandfather Isaac Calvin Mays Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory are; her children Hollis Grey and Hudson Morgan Ivey of Beartice, NE; her siblings, Kacey (Hannah) Mays of Vinton, Keely Mays of Sulphur, her niece and namesake, Ella Kae Mays; her grandfather, Clifford James Guillory of Sulphur; aunts and uncles, Jamie (Tracey) Guillory of Sulphur, Blaine (Terry) Guillory of Tucson, AZ, Tammy (Craig) Hare of Hemphill, TX, Roger Mays and Ronnie Mays of Sulphur; as well as her family at heart; Gayla Roberts, Shai (Danny) Brister, Chelsea (Blade) Henry, Christen (Brandon) Trahan.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Carlyss from 11am to 2pm, with a Rosary at 12pm. A Mass of Christian Burial, led by Father Michael Caraway, will be held at 2pm at Our Lady Prompt Succor Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Miller Cemetery-Annex in Starks, LA.
