Kenneth Nelson “Buddy” Bateman, 74, of Lake Charles, LA died at11:45 PM on Friday, December 4, 2015 in a local care facility.
Mr. Bateman was born February 17, 1941 in Nitro, WV, lived a number of years in Chicago, IL, and has lived in Lake Charles for the past eleven years. He served his country in the U.S. Army for four years during the Vietnam Era, serving two of those years overseas. He retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers after forty years in the coal mines.
Mr. Bateman is survived by the love of his life, Sona Young; son, Kenneth Nelson Bateman, II and wife Theresa; daughter, Renee Wilkins; grandchildren, Bryan Bateman, Teddy Wilkins, and Kelly Wilkins; and two brothers, Keith Bateman and Kurtis Bateman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Bateman; mother, Madelyn Rose Roberts; and two brothers, Steve and Teddy Bateman.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend E.J. McCann will officiate. Burial will be at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.

May God return the blessings to all those who have been on this journey with us.
