Kenneth G. "Kenny" Fontenot

Kenneth Gerald “Kenny” Fontenot, 69, of Welsh, LA passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Welsh, LA.
Mr. Fontenot was born June 20, 1954 in Lake Charles, lived nearly forty years in the Lake area and in the early nineties, made Welsh, LA his home. He worked his younger years on a tugboat during which time he joined the Merchant Marines. Mr. Fontenot later began working as a residential and industrial carpenter with the Carpenter’s Local 102 and continued as a skilled carpenter for many years. He was also a skilled craftsman, enjoyed wood working, building furniture and creating crafts that he carried to Arts & Crafts shows throughout Louisiana and parts of Texas. He also enjoyed telling stories, knowing just when to show up at his brothers cookouts, listening to French music and swamp pop and loved dancing and always enjoyed a cold beer. Mr. Fontenot was an avid outdoorsman, ready to go camping, hunting, fishing and shrimping any time he had a chance. He will be most remembered for his love of his family and as “the best grandpa ever”!
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of forty-three years, Shirley Ann Fontenot of Welsh, LA; three daughters, Kimberly Elizabeth Fontenot of Augusta, GA, Heather Michelle Brock (Ron) of Welsh, LA and Cynthia Ann Fontenot of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Nell Royer of Ragley; two brothers, Doris Lee “Pic” Fontenot (Angie) and John Marlin Fontenot (Mary) of LeBleu Settlement and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his extended family, stepdaughters, Jackie Ann Williams (Rico) and Tammy Marie Fruge, both of Lake Charles; three step granddaughters and eleven step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Fontenot and Betty Jean Rider Harris; sister, Pamela Jean Wright and three brothers, James Emory “Jimmy” Fontenot, Jackie Ray Fontenot and Robert Dale “BooBoo” Fontenot.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, December 4th in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Elsie May Sonnier will officiate. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Monday from 8:30 AM until the time of service.
