On Friday, September 18, 2020, Kenneth Hoffpauir, husband of Marilyn Barbara Hoffpauir and life-long resident of Lake Charles, LA, passed away surrounded by his family.
Ken was born November 19, 1936, to Raymond Jesse Hoffpauir and Odessa Guidry Hoffpauir. He was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Leach and Evelyn Carr and his brother Raymond Hoffpauir.
He graduated from LaGrange High School, attended McNeese State University, and entered the Army where he served as a mechanic during the Korean War. Upon his return to Lake Charles, he met and married Barbara Hackett on August 3, 1968. He fondly called Barbara “my sweetheart” and through 52 years of marriage, introduced himself and his wife with a playful chuckle as “Ken and Barbie.” Ken and Barbara raised three successful children, participated actively in the First Baptist Church of Lake Charles for over 50 years, and took every opportunity to hold each other’s hands. Ken, blessed with a mechanical mind and skilled hands, worked at PPG in instrumentation until he retired in 2000. Although Ken struggled with many complex health issues in the last 20 years of his life, he maintained a positive attitude, quick wit, and easy laugh that he was known for; when difficulties arose, he joked about having to apply his “people skills” to nurses and doctors. Ken’s legacy to his children includes his patient determination, steady temperament, and simply fun yet profound love of life.
He leaves behind his wife as well as his children and grandchildren: Julie Ann Hoffpauir of Houston, TX; Brian Kevin and Rebekah Allen Hoffpauir of Glenelg, MD, parents of grandchildren Peter and Elisabeth; and Brady Stuart and Nikki Finch Hoffpauir of Charlotte, NC, parents of grandchildren Mackenzie and Tucker.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at University Baptist Church. The Rev. John Dammon will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the church from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
