Larry Landry

September 6, 1942 — October 15, 2024

Kenneth Larry Landry, 82, of Lake Charles passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the comfort of his home.

Larry was born September 06, 1942 to Henry Lester Landry and Gertrude Henson Landry in Lake Charles where he lived most of his life. He was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School where he played football and was a member of the Water-Skiing Club. He studied drafting at McNeese State University and Sowela Technical College. Larry then served in the United States Navy during which time he met his future wife of 56 years, Sandi. Following their service in the Navy, Larry made Lake Charles their home. He began work of his fifty-year career with his family as an owner and mechanic of Landry Brothers on Alamo Street. He was well known and well respected throughout Southwest Louisiana for his master mechanics in all areas of the field. He was truly a man of many skillsets, successful in putting anything together that was needed to accomplish almost any household, outdoor or mechanical tasks. His talents included refurbishing and refinishing furniture. A talented wood turning craftsman, he turned beautiful bowls and custom designed fishing poles. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, fishing, hunting and later in life scuba diving: a hobby he came to really enjoy, sharing the experience with his son, daughter and a group of friends. He especially loved beach diving, cave diving and spear fishing. During his later years he enjoyed custom basket weaving. He will be remembered as a “pitmaster”, his specialty being Thanksgiving turkeys. He will also be remembered for his fierce love and devotion to his family and friends as well as his quick wit and unique colloquialism. Most importantly he will be remembered as a humble man, who loved Jesus with all of his heart, self-taught handy man, who was remarkably wise and a stellar example of the mankind the Lord intended us to be.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 56 years, Sandi of Lake Charles; two daughters, Jodi Landry of Houston and Becky Landry Fletcher (Trey) of Austin, TX; four grandchildren, Megan Fletcher, CPL Andrew Fletcher, Dayton Courville and Addison Ates and; niece, Amy Sonnier (Stephen); nephew, Todd Michael Honeycutt (Melanie); sister in law, Robin Miller; brother in law, F M King and lifelong friends, Richard LeDoux (Bunny).

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael Landry, and sister, Cheryl Honeycutt Hutchins.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 PM Friday October 25, 2024 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Chaplain Tim Bergeron will officiate. Visitation Friday will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.
