Kenneth Ray Brunet, 68, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 4:04 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 in a Hot Springs, Arkansas hospital.
Mr. Brunet was born August 25, 1952 in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a life-long resident until Hurricane Laura moved him to Arkansas. He was a 1971 graduate of Marion High School and attended McNeese State University from 1988 to 1994. He worked many years as an electrician until an accident caused him to be a quadriplegic. Kenneth pushed through and used his disability to educate others and served as an advocate for Americans with Disabilities. He worked as a therapist and counselor for S.L.I.C. and as a loan agent for L.A.T.A.N. in Baton Rouge. Kenneth also served as an advisor to Mary McDonnell, the star of the movie Passion Fish, where he had a small part alongside the star and showed them the daily roles of someone living in a wheelchair. Kenneth enjoyed reading during his free time and had a heart the size of Texas, he was always giving in any way that he could. He always had an ear open for everyone and will be missed dearly by all.
Mr. Brunet is survived by his siblings, Emmett Wayne Brunet of Hillard, OH, David Eugene Brunet and wife Rowena Alcano Brunet of Lancaster New City, Philippines, Roger Dale Flores of Caddo Gap, AR, and Regina Flores Trahan and husband Adam Mathew Trahan of Lake Charles, LA; step-daughter, Melissa Monteiro of Sulphur; step-son, Josh Monteiro of Orange, TX; his granddaughter, Breanne “Bre” Robertson of Sulphur; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Roosevelt “J.R.” Brunet; his mother and step-father, Ouida Dale Vawter Flores and Rogerio Flores; and brothers, Gary Brunet, Randall Brunet, and Rodney Brunet.
His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Friends and family are invited to share stories of Kenneth’s life. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
