Kernis John "Blackie" Trahan

February 2, 1930 — May 25, 2022

Kernis “Blackie” John Trahan was born Feb 2, 1930 in Lyons Point, Louisiana to Claudias and Lucia Trahan.

He was a graduate of Crowley High School then in 1947 he made Lake Charles his home. He was employed with Augustine Construction Co. for over 45 years as payroll and timekeeper at Cities Service, retiring in April of 1996.

He will best be remembered for the many years of dedication to coaching the South Lake Charles Little League team. He and the team earned a spot in the Louisiana Playoffs many years, even going on to several championships in Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama. He was strict with his players, but everyone requested to be on his team. He was also a member of the Umpire Association.

When he was not working or coaching, you’d find him in his green station wagon, cigar in hand, edger in the back, traveling from his yard to the yards of others edging. He received the nickname-Blackie because of his Creole and Italian heritage.

He and his late wife, Altia belonged to the LaClur du has cadinene of Lake Charles French Club for many years. They were also long-time members of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.

He was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 by his devoted wife of sixty-four years Altia Daigle Trahan; parents, Claudias and Lucia Trahan; a sister, Lovenia Dockins.
