Kim Nunez

March 29, 1965 — January 10, 2023

Kim Nunez, 57 years old, was born to LouEtta (Doxey) Nunez and Boyd Allen Nunez of Creole on March 29, 1965.  Kim passed away on January 10, 2023 surrounded by family and friends in the comfort of his own home.  He was a fighter all his life and he fought for life til the very end.

Kim enjoyed working out with weights every day.  He believed in having a strong body and mind.  For many years he trudged through the marshes in Creole, hunting and trapping.  He enjoyed target shooting and was a good marksman.  He followed his dad and his grandfather, Red Nunez, daily.  He learned many things from them both.  Kim loved to work with his hands, he loved to build things but most of all he loved to fix things, from washing machines to cars and everything in between.  He enjoyed keeping busy.  He also enjoyed helping others with projects, especially the elderly.  Kim enjoyed spending holidays with his mom and dad and entire family at the “camp” where many birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated.

Kim graduated from South Cameron High School in 1983 and journeyed on to the next step in his life.

For 36 years he spent days and nights working for the Cameron Parish Sheriff Department.  He loved his job and was always on the go.  On his time off he had his own business.  He had a lawn care business and did odd jobs.  No job too big or too small.  He enjoyed helping his sister with her horses.  Chase, his yorkie, was his partner and they were together daily.

Kim had a tough exterior, but inside, a heart of gold.  He loved his wife dearly and had a special place in his heart for children.  When his daughter Tabitha was born, he was so excited and happy.  He was determined to make life as happy for her as possible.  He gained two stepdaughters with his marriage to Brandi (Lavergne) Nunez, Kayla and Breanna.  This made his life even fuller.  His world actually glowed when his grandchildren were born, Aubrey, Lexi, Matthew, Ruth, Ella and Anya.  He was continuously surrounded by these treasures and he enjoyed every minute with them.

Those preceding him were his mother, LouEtta (Doxey) Nunez; his grandfathers, Ova (Red) Nunez and Jimmy Doxey; his grandmothers, Matilda Doxey and Bernice Nunez; and his mother-in-law, Anita Lavergne.

Those left to carry on his memory are his wife Brandi (Lavergne) Nunez; daughter, Tabitha Nunez Lambert (Bradley); stepdaughters Kayla and Breanna; grandchildren, Aubrey, Lexi, Matthew, Ruth, Ella and Anya; father, Boyd Allen Nunez; sister, Dinah Nunez Landry (Toby); and brother, Randy Nunez (Laurie); along with his nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

Kim was not a complicated man, he made it clear as to his feelings on every matter.  He enjoyed the simple things in life, like riding to town with his wife for a cold Dr. Pepper and hot McDonald’s French Fries.  He will be missed by everyone.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.  Rev. Zack Rodriquez will officiate.  Burial will follow in Sweetlake-Grand Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Langhofer and Harbor Hospice for the excellent team of nurses who cared for him at home.
