Larry Bryne Callegan, 73, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 12:35 AM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in his residence.

Mr. Callegan was born April 14, 1948 in New Roads, LA and was raised in Morganza, LA, where he graduated from Morganza High School in 1966.  He went on to attend LSU and returned to Morganza, where he lived for another fifteen years.  In 1990, he moved to Hackberry, LA and to Lake Charles in 1994.  Mr. Callegan began his working career with Greyhound Bus Line, then went on to own and operate various companies throughout the years.  He worked five years for Lowe’s Home Improvement, working his way to assistant manager.  He retired after working as a commercial fisherman in Hackberry, which was his favorite career.  Mr. Callegan loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially gardening, but his true passion in life was always for his family and his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed watching football, especially LSU and the New Orleans Saints.

Mr. Callegan is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Melody Smith Callegan; children, Melissa Callegan of Denham Springs, Carla Callegan of Baton Rouge, LA, Bryne Callegan and wife Theresa of Baton Rouge, and Nicole Callegan of Lake Charles; sister, Judy Burke and husband Rudy of Morganza, LA; nieces and nephew, Angela Patel and husband Jay, Monte Burke and wife Barbara, and Rachel Minor and husband Daniel; grandchildren, Amber and husband Reid, Evan and wife Chelsea, Gage, Victoria, Regan, Katelin, and Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Aulden, Ace, and Kinley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Wilma Granier Callegan; and sister, Joyce LaBorde.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2022 at University Baptist Church.  Rev. Dr. Bart Leger and David Wells will lead the service.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:30 AM until the start of the service, with a rosary at 12:00 PM.
