Larry James Gary

Larry James Gary was one of three children born to the late J.C. and Dorothy Gary. He was born in Jennings, LA on June 17,1944.

He attended LaGrange High School, where after graduating he married his high school sweetheart, Cristina Olmsted.

Together they welcomed two children, Wade and Mona. He was proud to be a union sheet metal worker, eventually working in Northern California where they enjoyed living for twenty years. The last six years of his career he served as a union representative for Sheet Metal Local 162. Recently he enjoyed his two grandchildren and bring on his tractor often with one or both of them at their home in Lafayette.

On January 26, 2022 he passed away peacefully, his wife holding his hand.

His last request was for his grandchildren to learn what he taught his children- “do not hate”. Those left to cherish his loving spirit and memory are his wife of fifty-six years, Cristina; a son, Wade Gary; a daughter, Mona McCalister; grandchildren, Christian and Alyssa; brother, Michael Gary; sister, Delores Leeth; his stepfather, Luther Hoffpauir.

The family will welcome friends on Monday, January 31, 2022 at University Baptist Church, beginning at 12pm 'til time of service. A funeral led by Pastor Sonya Lars will begin at 2pm, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
