Larry Keith "Pop" Chitty

Larry Keith Chitty, 82, of Holmwood, passed away at 5:22 AM, Sunday, May 29, 2016 in his residence surrounded by his family.

 

Mr. Chitty was born in Ville Platte, LA and graduated from DeQuincy High School and SLI, Now the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. He was a longtime resident of the Holmwood area. Mr. Chitty was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War and retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, served as Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 3048, 4th Degree Knight of Monsignor Joseph Peter Assembly, and a member of the Amicus Club. Mr. Chitty served as President of the Ward 2 Fire District 1 Fire Department which he assisted in establishing. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2130.

 

He is survived by one son, Chris Chitty and wife Shanda of Holmwood; four daughters, Lynne Fruge and husband Daniel of Hayes; Karen Hunt and husband Brad of Watkinsville, GA; Pam Chitty of Snomish, WA, and Lesa Wilson and husband Jim of Bell City; eleven grandchildren, Sean Fruge and wife Lisa, Danielle Foreman and husband David, Cara Sonnier and husband Ean, Lydia Hunt, Harmony “Nikki” Fruge and husband Tommy, Heather Wilson, Hunter Wilson and wife Jillian, Hayden Wilson, Wesley Chitty, Samantha Sonnier and husband Sam, and Tanner Chitty and wife Maddie; and fifteen great grandchildren; Jacey Myers, Lane and Khloe Fruge, and Kenadi and Grady Foreman, Emmett, Everett, Etta, and Elliott Fruge, Miller and Baby Sonnier, Jenson Wilson, Blade Wilson, Grace Chitty, and Milo Sonnier; sister, Carol Chitty Land and husband Winston; and special family members, Werner Land and wife Michelle adopted grandchildren, Tye, Austin, Gabe(Godchild), and Eryn Land. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Willa Nell Broussard Chitty; parents Ulysses and Lenora Guillaumin Chitty, and sister Nora Dean Chitty Kilgore.

 

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. Reverend Emanuel Tanu will officiate. Burial will be in DeRouen/Lorrain Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a cursillo rosary being recited at 6:00 PM, and continue from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM, Tuesday.
