Lattie Marie Gammage Clayton, 94, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 30, 2021 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Clayton was born May 25, 1927 in Smackover, AR, but lived most of her life in Lake Charles, LA. She was a 1944 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and attended McNeese State University. She worked at Cities Service from 1944-1949 and continued working as a secretary with various construction companies throughout her career. Mrs. Clayton was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church for over seventy years, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at St. Patrick Hospital and enjoyed traveling, sewing, and cooking.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by her son, Harry Michael Clayton, PhD; daughter, Susan “Susie” Christine Clayton Carter, both of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Christin Carter Stoneking, Zane Michael Carter, Josie Carter, Ashlee Clayton Nelson, DV, Sean D. Clayton, MD, Steven Paul Clayton, Bradley Clayton, and David Jowers; and great-grandchildren Macie, Taylor and Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Guy Ritchie Clayton, Sr.; parents, David and Susan Gammage, Sr.; son, Guy Ritchie Clayton, Jr.; two brothers, David Gammage, Jr. and John Gammage; and sister, Lois Stovall.
Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church North Venue. Reverend Steve James will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
