Moss Bluff – A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 3pm at Johnson Funeral Home’s Moss Bluff location at 2171 North Highway 171, Lake Charles, LA 70611, for Lavada Frances Denton Pullin, 72, who passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 2pm until 3pm. 

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves behind her husband Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Pullin, and their three children, Shelby Boulet (Pullin) Mathis and husband, Jeremy Mathis, John Bervick Pullin II, and Mark Denton Pullin; her grandchildren, Levinia Weber Pullin and Brooklyn Taylor Pullin; her sister, Melanie Moreno and husband, Richard Moreno; her nieces and nephews, Victoria, Sara, Lauren, Matthew, Aubrey, John David, and Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey Olen Denton and Effie Rae Fitzgerald; stepfather, Charles Marshall Fontenot; her brother Aubrey Edward “Butch” Denton; and brother-in-law David Ruston “Rusty” Pullin.

Lavada was born in Lafayette and grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She graduated from LaGrange Senior High School in Lake Charles in 1969 and attended McNeese State University studying Business Administration. On June 4, 1971, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Jerry Pullin. They celebrated 52 years of marriage this summer.

Lavada never met a shelter animal that she did not want to bring home. She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and the many rescue animals that she took in over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
