Lawrence E. Cooke, our precious husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 9, 2010, at his residence in Lake Charles, with his family at his side.
A graduate of Iowa High School, he was a retired operator from Cites Service (Oxy) after 34 years of service. Mr. Cooke served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII as a sergeant. A member of Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church since 1961, he served as a past deacon for 20 years and an usher. Preceding him death were his parents, Samuel and Mary Etta Cooke, his brothers, Noble, Henry, Thomas, and Chester Cooke; and two sisters, Mary Conner and Ethel Benoit. Lawrence loved to travel, hunt, and fish with his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Dorothy Cloud Cooke of Lake Charles; his children, Rita Cooke and Malcolm C. Cooke and wife, Teresa all of Lake Charles, and Robert D. Cooke and wife, Barbara of Sharpsburg, GA; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Gary Evers will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, August 11, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, August 12, from 10 a.m. until time of service.
