Layne Emerson Richard

June 21, 1957 — July 29, 2022

Layne Emerson Richard, 65, of Ragley passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 29, 2022 in his residence.

Mr. Richard was born on June 21, 1957 in Lake Charles where he was raised and was a graduate of LaGrange High School.  He moved to Ragley in 1993 where he currently resided.  Mr. Richard was a skilled welder for the Pipeliners Local #798 for 40 years.  He proudly held many titles in his industry including foreman, job steward, and fabricator.  Mr. Richard attended First Pentecostal Church in Lake Charles. 

He was a hard worker who could do just about everything and could fix just about anything.  Mr. Richard enjoyed being on his tractor in the hay fields.  When not working, he took pleasure in dancing, listening to music, coon hunting, and most of all, spending time with his family.  He cherished every moment he was blessed to have with them.  Mr. Richard was a jokester and will be remembered for his amusing and charming personality.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jessie Richard of Lake Charles and Leslie Ashworth (Bradley) of Ragley; siblings, Don Alan Richard (Pam) of Ragley, Gwen Richard of Houston, Kay Womack (Paul)of Montgomery, TX, and Ron Richard of Lake Charles; his loving companion, Beverly Prince of Ragley; and his beloved grandchildren, Brenton Layne Ashworth, Lakyn Ashworth, and Adlie Richard.  He also leaves behind his aunt and uncle, Gwen and Kenneth Fletcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casey and Thelma Richard; grandparents, who were instrumental in raising Layne, Emerson and Vernice “Mokey” Cole; and a precious granddaughter, Mekayla Ashworth.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Moss Bluff.  Cremation will follow.
