Lena LaRocca Mosca, 100, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully Dec. 18th, surrounded by her loving family.
Lena was born on February 1, 1923, and was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She proudly was a descendant of one of the large Italian families that migrated to the Lake Area in the early 1900’s. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where she served as a member of the Ladies Altar Society and spent weekly hours for the perpetual adoration.
Lena was an avid bowler for over 40 years and was a long-time secretary of the Tuesday Night Big Top League. She loved playing Boure and gardening and was proud of her beautiful yard and flowers. In the late 1940’s, Ben, her husband, and Lena owned a restaurant called The Hollywood Café on Broad Street. Lena was a great cook and her spaghetti and Sfincione Bread sometimes took days to cook for her big family to enjoy. Throughout her working career she worked various jobs outside the home while raising their five daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Rose LaRocca; beloved husband of 52 years, Ben Mosca; loving companion of over 20 years, Tony LeBato; and her two brothers, Carlo and Joe LaRocca.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memories, her five daughters, Lucille Gothreaux (Harold); Rosemary Abadie, Tina Mosca Coffman (John), Ava LeBlanc (Russell Walker) and Lesia White, all of Lake Charles; seven Grandchildren, Kathy Chafin (Mark), Kurtis Gothreaux (Paula), Michael Gothreaux (Traci), Berry Coffman (Jeanine), Krista Abel (Matt), Chelsie Howard (Travis Sellers), Ben White (Rosemary); eleven Great Grandchildren; and five Great Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday December 20, 2023, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation continues at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Thursday, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be observed at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Father Joshua Page and Seminarian Hunter LaRocca serving as celebrants. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Cemetery.
Special thanks to her long-time primary physician, Dr. Gerry Hebert and her many caregivers, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, Gerry Guillory, Janice Young Hall, Sheila Droddy and countless others who loved and supported her and her family these past few years.
