Leo Frank Schwertner

May 30, 1925 — November 7, 2012

Leo Frank Schwertner, 87, of Lake Charles, died Wednesday November 7, 2012 at his son's residence after an extended illness.


Leo was born in Edinburg, Texas as was raised in Miles, Texas before moving to Louisiana. Leo honorably served our country during World War II in France in the United States Army Air corps. He was a retired Mud Engineer for AMOCO, and a Agriculture Businessman. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was a Forth Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, History and being an active grandparent with his grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Bertie Schwertner. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Rodney and wife Karen Schwertner, Lake Charles; grandchildren, Bradley, Lauren, Scott and Nicholas Schwertner and one great grandchild, Brayden Schwertner, one brother, Clement Schwertner and wife Marie, three sisters, Mona Bryan and husband Truett and Dorothy Rothmfeld, Jerline Bartles and husband Erwin, two sister- in- laws Melva and Lorine Schwertner.


He was also preceded in death by his parents Edward and Verna Schwertner, four brothers; Benjamin Schwertner, Raymond Schwertner, Oskar Schwertner, Alfred Schwertner and his wife Francis, sister Elizabeth Jost and husand Elo, Williemae Niehues and husband Werner,


Visitation will be Saturday November 10, 2012 from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM at Johnson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 10:15 AM and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Father T.L. Herlong as celebrant. Burial will follow the mass at Consolata Cemetery.


The family would like to give a special thanks to Christus St. Patrick Hospital Hospice and their staff, Vera, Elaine and Justin for all of their care.
