Leola Richard Broussard

January 2, 1922 — November 25, 2021

Leola Marie Richard Broussard, 99, of the Terrytown area of New Orleans, formerly of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on November 25 surrounded by her family.

Leola was a native of Abbeville and longtime resident of the Lake Charles Area. She was a pioneer of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters for 45 years. She was alo an active member the American Legion Post 1 and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Terrytown for the past 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. and Ella Broussard Richard; her loving husband, which she shared 65 wonderful years with, Joseph C. Broussard; brothers, Duras “Toos Pic” Richard and LeRoy Bodion; sisters, Evelyn R. Cheramie ad Thelma R. Terrebonne; sons-in-law; George Greathouse, Larry Thompson, Sid Ray and Bob Gwaltney; grandson, Robert Gwalthney; and great grandson, Camden Gwalthney.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda Greathouse and Sharon Ray; grandchildren, Lady Jessica Thompson Broussard; Joseph Gwaltney, Kim Gwaltney, and William “Bill “ Thompson; granddaughter-in-law; Tammy Gwaltney; great grandchildren, Samantha Gwaltney, Heather  Csillag-Rapalo, Steven Csillag-Rapalo, Devin Rapalo, Hannah Gwaltney, Jade Thompson, William “Joey” Thompson and wife Gina, Jaci Thompson and Garret Gwaltney; great-great grandchildren, Kage Gwaltney and Kane Fisher; niece, Lady Ella Terrebonne as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.

Visitation will be at University Baptist Church, 4505 Lake St., Lake Charles from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Wednesday December 1, 2021. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 PM with burial following at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for helping in her final months to comfortably transition and to Roynelle Smith for always being there and helping, so grateful to have you grafted in as a part of the family.
