Leola Theresa East Theriot, 83, of Grand Chenier, LA died at 6:52 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2014 after a brief illness in her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Theriot was born December 6, 1930 in Grand Chenier, LA, where she was a life-long resident. She was a graduate of Grand Chenier High School and was a graduate of the first class from McNeese State College in 1952. She worked as a teacher at Hackberry High School, Grand Lake High School and then retired from South Cameron High School. She enjoyed volunteering as the FBLA coordinator for a number of years and was a member of the Louisiana Teacher's Retirement Association and the McNeese Alumni Association. Mrs. Theriot was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Eugene Catholic Church, where she was active with the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. She was an avid NASCAR fan and a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. She also loved to travel and camp with her family and friends. Her greatest passion in life was for her family, she loved to spend time with them and would travel the country to see her family's various sporting activities. Mrs. Theriot is survived by her children, Theresa Welch and husband Yancy of Oak Grove, LA, Stephanie January and husband Greg of Lake Charles, Mark Theriot and wife Tammie of Lake Charles, Ward Theriot and wife Trudy of Alvin, TX, Guy Theriot and wife Angie of Grand Chenier, and Lori McCardle and husband Chad of Grand Lake, LA; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Theriot; parents, Julian and Ena East; brother, Darrell East; sister, Hulaine Kelley; and a twin sister at birth. Her funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole, LA. Father Tim Goodly will officiate. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Grand Chenier, LA. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM. Pallbearers for the service will be Marcus Theriot, Steven Landry, Brandon Theriot, Justin Theriot, Cade Theriot, Drake Godette, and Luke McCardle. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Lola Quinn, Dr. Lynn Speight, Dequincy Home Health, Southern Care Hospice, Father Richard Uche, and Father Tim Goodly for the excellent care and compassion given to their mother.
