Leon Henry Newton

Leon Henry Newton, 84, of Lake Charles died at 2:55 AM Sunday, July 31, 2011 in his residence with his loving family at his side.


Mr. Newton was born in Colfax, Louisiana and has lived in Lake Charles since 1960. He was a 1944 graduate of Dry Prong High School. Leon enlisted with the United States Navy after graduation, he served his country during WWII. Mr. Newton went to work for Bell South Telephone Company, he became a repair supervisor until retiring in June of 1984 with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneer's of America. Mr. Newton was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.


Leon is survived by two sons; Robin Newton and his wife Jackie of San Antonio, TX, and David Newton and his wife Marcia of Lake Charles, LA, four daughters; Cathy Hoffpauir and her husband Travis of Lake Charles, LA, Debra Scritchfield and husband David of Westlake, LA, Ruthie Andrus and husband Craig of Lake Charles, and Janice Montie and husband John of Sulphur, LA, one stepdaughter Betty Thibodeaux and husband Ray of Lake Charles, LA, two brothers; Mark Newton and his wife Glenda of Colfax, LA, and Frank Newton and his wife Pat of Little Rock, AK, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren 1 great greatgrandchild.


He is preceded in death by his wife Yeola Simon Newton, his parents Laura and Will Newton, four sisters and two brothers.


His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Betty McGehee will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 8:00 AM until the time of services on Wednesday.
