Leon Paul Prestia, Sr., 77, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 in a local hospital.
Mr. Prestia was a native of New Orleans where he lived most of his life and has lived the past eleven years in Lake Charles. He retired from Dixie Brewing Company with nearly forty years of service. He also worked for Standard Supply. Mr. Prestia was a proud member of Knights of Columbus Counsel #1437 where he was affectionately known as "Dixie Man". He enjoyed raising exotic birds: Homing pigeons, Tumblers and Capuchins and was a creative frugal thinker, utilizing things around the house to make useful structures. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Margaret Catholic Church. Mr. Prestia will be most remembered for his sense of humor, ability to make people laugh and his outgoing personality.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of forty-eight years, Patricia Hopkins Prestia; one son, Leon Paul "Rocky" Prestia, Jr. of Lake Charles and two grandsons, Jacob Silas Prestia and Miles Frederick Prestia, all of Lake Charles; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francesco and Mathilda Caruso Prestia; three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Joseph Prestia and four sisters, Laura, Rose, Lean Mae and Pauline Prestia.
In respect of Mr. Prestia's wishes, his services were private. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.
