Leona Mary Marcantel

July 13, 1939 — April 30, 2018

Leona Mary Marcantel, 78, of Lake Charles passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 in a local care facility.

Ms. Marcantel was born on July 13, 1939 in Abbeville. She spent her childhood in Beauregard Parish where she was a graduate of Ragley High School. As a young adult she moved to Lake Charles where she later furthered her education at McNeese State University and received a Bachelor Degree in Accounting. She began her career as a successful self employed accountant as well as a self made real estate entrepreneur. Ms. Marcantel also worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a school bus driver retiring after 39 years of service.

She was a leader in the community who was looked up to by many and well respected. Ms. Marcantel will be remembered for her love, kindness, and giving heart to family, friends, and a host of MSU football tailgaters. If her grit and wit ever failed to bring a smile to your face her cooking surely did.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are son, Gregg Marcantel (Tamera) of Placitas, NM; daughter, Lynette Marcantel (companion, Judy Bradley) of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Jordan; and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends, and community members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonia and Leon Hargrove.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the start of the service.
