Leona Thibodeaux Reed, 81, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:52 PM on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Reed was born on September 2, 1931 in Grand Chenier, LA. She retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company as an operator after 25 years of service. Mrs. Reed was a lifetime member of the Telephone Company Pioneer's Club and also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Post #2130.
She had a passion for playing Cajun music and was inducted into the Cajun French Music Hall of Fame in November of 2012.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory are three children, Doris LeJeune and husband Joseph of Rayne, Carol Babineaux of Sulphur, and Godfrey Reed of Basile; two nephews, Raymond Dallas and wife Tina and Anthony Dallas and wife Debbie; three nieces, Joan Thibodeaux Camp and husband John, Dr. Brenda Thibodeaux Roberts, and Marlene Thibodeaux Rolfsen and husband Chris; a sister-in-law, Mable Primeaux Thibodeaux; eight grandchildren, Sabrina Dugai and husband Robert of Crowley, Dillon LeJeune of Rayne, Eric Bergeaux of Eunice, Rachel McDaniel of Lake Charles, Eugene Veillon and wife Karen of Moss Bluff, Douglas Veillon and Sophia of Moss Bluff, Allen Fruge of Sulphur, and David Fruge of Lake Charles; and numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aubrey Eugene Reed; a daughter, Debbie Abshire; her parents, John and Mary Telicia Montie Thibodeaux; a brother, Adam Thibodeaux; and a sister, Sybil Thibodeaux Dallas and husband Arthur Dallas, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2013 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Rev. Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Eugene Catholic Church Cemetery in Grand Chenier under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 5:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday in the funeral home from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
