Leonie Mildred "Millie" Bourdier passed away on Monday, Jan 27, 2014 at a local care facility. She was 107 years old. Born on April 23, 1906, in Lake Charles, Millie was the daughter of the late, Michael and Mathilde Hebert Bourdier. A native of Lake Charles, she graduated from Lake Charles High in 1923 and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, graduating with a BA degree in 1926. She was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Millie was also an active member of AARP chapter 736 for many years, she taught school in Mamou and Church Point. She returned in 1931 to Lake Charles and worked at City Hall as a secretary to the mayor. In 1946, she began a career at Olin Chemical Corporation in the Purchasing Department and worked there until her retirement in 1971 at the age of 65. Millie loved to travel and did so until she was 95. She lived independently and on her own until February 2010, even staying extended times in Mexico and Arkansas. She leaves her adopted family, Lloyd and Camille Stakes, and long time friends, Betty Henry, Marie Eskind, Mary Savoie, and Charles and Wray Heinbach. A graveside service with Deacon Butch Hebert officiating will be held at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breaux Bridge on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2 P.M, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
