Leroy Arthur

Clinton Leroy Arthur, 86, of Vinton, passed away peacefully at a Sulphur care facility on Friday April 21, 2023.

Leroy was a native of Sabine Parish and a longtime resident of Vinton. After graduating high school, he went to west Texas to find work. While working in Big Springs, Texas he caught the eye of Zollie “Doodle” Rawlins, who was the love of his life. For 65 years, they built a home together, having moved from the Big Springs, Texas area to Los Alamos, New Mexico to Dequincy and eventually settling in Vinton. While Leroy was a mechanic by occupation, having worked in the paper mills in DeQuincy, and retiring from Polysar in Orange, he will be best remembered as a Godly husband, father, and grandfather.

He cherished the time with his wife, with whom he was inseparable from, and his children. The family enjoyed camping all over Texas and Louisiana. Leroy instilled in his children the love of hunting, fishing, and softball. Many times, the entire family could be found participating in softball. In his later years, Leroy enjoyed watching ladies’ softball on television.

Preceding Leroy in death are his parents, Florien and Mildred Dowden Arthur; two brothers, Patrick D. Arthur and Grover Michael Arthur; brother-in-law, Earl Raines and his beloved wife, Zollie “Doodle” Rawlins Arthur. He leaves to honor and cherish his memories his three sons, Raymond Arthur (Dianne), Buna, Texas; Bradley Arthur (Melanie), Jennings; and Greg Arthur (Dana), Aiken, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Shawntel Cunningham (Cody), Ashlie Woods (Shawn), B.J. Arthur, Clinton Arthur, Katelyn Trahan (Cory), Ariel Arthur, Reed Arthur and Alexa Arthur; fifteen great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Arthur (Jerri), Many; sister, Linda Rains, also of Many as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.

As to Leroy’s wishes, cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. The family will have a gathering at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 29, 2023, at Crossroads Baptist Church, 1845 LA 109, Vinton, LA 70668 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM. Following the services, everyone is invited to join the family for a meal and fellowship at the church. The family will have a private graveside inurnment, placing his remains next to his beloved Doodle in Fort Jessup Cemetery in Sabine Parish.
