Leroy Thomas

LeRoy Thomas, 79, of Lake Charles passed away at 7:10 PM on Friday, October 6, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mr. Thomas was born on May 31, 1938 in Streator, IL where he was a graduate of Streator Township High School and awarded a letterman jacket for being a star player on the golf team. Following graduation, he joined the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1978 after serving in the Vietnam War and being a deserving recipient of the Bronze Star. His military career moved he and his family to locations all over the world until settling in Lake Charles upon retirement. Mr. Thomas then worked for Cagle Chevrolet and also Radford Buick as the service department and body shop manager.

He was an avid golfer and a proud member of Pine Shadows Golf Course. Mr. Thomas was also a dedicated CUB’s fan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two children, Robin Ortego (Brian) and Roland Thomas all of Lake Charles; two sisters, Marilyn Holmes and Shirley Nicholas both of Illinois; five grandchildren, Matthew Hebert (Ashley), Randy Hebert, Scott Hebert, Joel Baglio (Brenda), and Dallas Thomas all of Lake Charles; and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Kayleigh Hebert.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Thomas and five siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Brad Ellerbe will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
