Lester Pe-Pop Guidry

July 30, 1918 — January 19, 2013

Lester Pe-Pop Guidry, 94, of Sulphur died at 2:45 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in a Crowley, LA care facility.


Mr. Guidry was born in Jennings on July 30, 1918. He was a farmer in Bell City until retiring and moving to Sulphur to work as a mechanic for W.T. Burton Industries. He then worked on the farm for Jack and Bill Lawton until two years ago at the age of 92. Mr. Guidry belonged to and was involved in many clubs and groups associated with farming and cattle. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss.


He was a devoted husband and father and was a compassionate grandfather. Mr. Guidry and his wife were avid travelers, having traveled to every state in the United States with the exception of Hawaii.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 74 years, Jane Vincent Guidry; two daughters, Linda G. and husband Lavon Whitlock of West Monroe, Merella Millie G. Monceaux of Crowley; two sons, Warren and wife Wanda Guidry of Lake Charles, and Arthur B-Ray and wife Judy Guidry of Lake Charles; a sister, Olite G Bouillion of Covington; two brothers, Lee Guidry of Sulphur and Percy and wife Sharon Guidry of Conroe, TX; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and eleven great great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elda Barbe Guidry; a sister, Gladys G. Choates; two brothers, Albert and Howard Guidry; son-in-law, Chester Pete Monceaux; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Guidry.


A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at St. Margaret

Catholic Church. The Rev. Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a cursillo rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
