Linda Carolyn Mckinney

November 12, 1940 — September 22, 2017

Linda Carolyn McKinney, 76, of Carlyss, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

 

Linda was a native of Winnfield, Louisiana and a 1958 graduate of Winnfield High School and 1961 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She followed her husband’s military career and as a military wife, held together the family’s affairs on her husband’s many deployments. She moved to Carlyss in 1980 when her husband retired from the Air Force. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Hackberry after 22 years of dedicated service.

 

She was a faithful member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, the Louisiana Association of Educators and National Association of Educators.

 

Preceding Linda in death are her parents, Austin Kyle and Georgia Sowers Overbey, brothers, Austin Kyle Overbey, Jr., and William Stafford “Billy” Overbey, and sister, Sara Overbey Rose. She leaves to honor and cherish her memories, her beloved husband of 56 years, Harold H. McKinney, Jr., Carlyss; sons, Harold (Hal) McKinney, III and wife Carolyn, Pearland, TX; James “Jay” McKinney and wife Pam, Lake Charles; daughter, Kristi “Lin” McKinney Thigpen and husband John, Carlyss; eight grandchildren, Kandice, Hunter, Beaux, Sophi, Gracie, Aleah, Derek, and Jordyn; five great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

 

A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Monday September 25, 2017 at Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, 404 S. Huntington St., Sulphur, LA 70663. A celebration of Linda’s Life will be at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Ellen Alston officiating. Inurnment will follow services at the church columbarium there in the church prayer garden.

 

The family would like to extend a special word of appreciation to all of the many caretakers that provided the kind, compassionate and loving care to our Grammi during this most difficult time.
