We, the family of Linda Sue LeDoux Castille (77), are greatly saddened to share the news that Linda, known to her grandchildren as “Nanny,” passed on to be with the Lord on December 16, 2024.
Born May 27, 1947, Linda was never an idle woman. She was both a farmer’s wife and a farmer in her own right. She was a Calcasieu Parish School Board bus driver for 25 years, a beautician, the poll commissioner of her voting precinct, and an active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlyss, serving with such groups as the ACTS Team and the Catholic Daughters. She was also a local trailblazer. She was one of the first female firefighters for the Carlyss Volunteer Fire Department – a group that consisted of four courageous women taking that first step – before she later became a dispatcher.
She was an amateur genealogist, a walking family tree. She was quick-witted, hilariously funny, and the World’s Best Eye-Roller. She could make some mean green beans or cook a delicious gumbo and asked that every family meal began with prayer. She was a lover of animals and a self-described “chicken lady” – she even had the shirt to prove it. She cared deeply for her female friendships, which she fostered and maintained throughout her life. She cherished her husband, her four boys, and their families deeply. She was a pillar of the Carlyss community.
She died as she lived, surrounded by family.
Linda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Milton Castille, and their four sons – Shannon (Crystal); Camus (Lauri); Russell (Katy); and Ty (Christine) – their thirteen grandchildren – Bailey, Andrew, Alexandra, Mia Wallace, Logan, Zachary, Emily, Collin, Christian, Anna Claire, Sam, Sarah, and Tyler – and their one great grandchild, Presley Wallace. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Castille Meaux (Curtis) and Margaret Castille as well as her extensive network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will also be missed by her loving pup and cat, Scooter and Miss Kitty.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Etta LeDoux; her brother, Arvil LeDoux; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Saul and Mabel Castille; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willard and Jackie Castille.
She will be honored with a Firefighter’s Funeral and a Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19 from 4 pm to 8 pm and Friday, December 20 from 8 am to 10:30 am at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, with a Cursillo Rosary taking place at 6 pm on Thursday, December 19 at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be on Friday, December 20 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlyss at 11 am, followed by a graveside service at Mimosa Pines Cemetery. We also invite you to a gathering of family and friends at St. Theresa’s KC Hall at the conclusion of the graveside service.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the nurses and doctors of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, who exemplified wisdom, empathy, and compassion during this difficult time for our family.
