Lionel A. Motte, Sr.

July 23, 1940 — December 20, 2022

Lionel A. Motte, Sr. was born to the late Leo and Joyce (Joubert) Motte on the 23rd of July, 1940 in Washington, LA.  He accepted Christ at an early age.  After moving to Lake Charles, he became and remained a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church for over the last 50 years.  Lionel was an entrepreneur.  He owned and operated Motte’s Heating and Cooling for 40 plus years, serving the Lake Charles and surrounding areas.  He enjoyed DJ-ing, Zydeco music, dancing, trail riding, and being with family and friends.  To Lionel, no one was a stranger.

Left to cherish his memory are, his devoted wife of 34 years, Barbara Motte; his daughters, Carolyn Perkins, Sherry Citizen (Gary), Vanessa Lemelle (Ronnie ), Serita Baysmore (Jerome), Miranda Harrison (Rashad), Lynetta Jeffery (Tyler); his sons, Lionel A. Motte, Jr. (Hope), and Ronnie Motte (Laura); a very close friend that he considered his son, Bryant Lefrere (Cherri); his sisters, Joyce Bias and Jacqueline Autrey; his brothers, Eddie “Sunny” Martin, Isaac “Ned” Martin, Leo Paul Motte, and Barry Motte (Rachel);  his 13 grandchildren, Stephanie, Daniel, Ryan, Andrea, Jonathan, Alexia, Ron, Jonavae, Ronessa, Hillary, De Ray, Landon, Zayden, Bryson; his 8 great-grandchildren, Landyn, Elizjah, Kynsleigh, Leighton, Amori, Clark Camero, Kelliana, Kyrie, another one on the way, and several bonus grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Joyce Motte; his siblings, Clayton, Leola, Isabella, Ruth Ann, and Anita.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. Margaret Catholic Church.  Father Nathan Long will serve as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Southwest Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery in Jennings, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM, and will resume on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until leaving in procession to the church at 10:30 AM.
