Lionel Paul Savoy

June 25, 1936 — June 18, 2023

Lionel Paul Savoy, 86, of Lake Charles, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, at his residence.  A native of Creole, La., Lionel was born on June 25, 1936, to Ozema and Margaret Broussard Savoy.  At 18 he was drafted into the United States Army and served in several campaigns.  During his time in the Army he met the love of his life, Sylvia Luyet.   Upon his discharge, he began working in various positions in the Cameron Parish Court House then finally for the Lake Charles Office of Motor Vehicles where he worked until his retirement in 1994.

Lionel was a father who loved unconditionally and was slow to anger.  He enjoyed being a grandfather and especially a doting great grandfather.  He was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.  He valued his Cajun-French heritage and always made sure people knew Cameron Parish was his home.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sylvia Luyet Savoy, Daughter; Dece Trahan (Troy), Son; Jason Savoy (Lynn), Sister; Dorothy “Bobbie” Landry (Robert), 6 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.

Lionel was preceded in death by his parents, son; Joseph Savoy, sisters; Bernice Mudd, Bennie Reon, brothers; Harold Savoy, Malcolm Savoie, and grandchildren; Kelli Trahan and Gavin McGee.

Visitation for Lionel will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 4:00PM until 6:00PM with a Rosary prayed at 6:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA. 70605.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 10:00AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 2500 Enterprise Blvd., Lake Charles, LA. 70601.  Burial will follow the Mass at Consolata Cemetery.
