Llewellyn Anthony "Lou" "T-Lou" Richard

November 18, 1942 — March 5, 2025

Llewellyn Anthony Richard, 82, of Lake Charles, peacefully passed with family by his side on March 5, 2025.

Known to family and friends as "Lou" or "T-Lou", he was the younger of two sons born to Wiltz Charles and Sophie Dupont Richard in Crowley, LA on November 18, 1942.

At 15 years old in 1957, Lou met his future wife, Judy Hanks, on the front steps of his parent's home as she and a friend were delivering a gift for his brother's wedding.

He followed in the footsteps of his brother and father, enlisting in the US Navy Reserve. After graduation from Crowley High School in May 1962 he and Judy married and he transferred to active duty in July the same year.

He completed Navy Radioman School in Bainbridge, MD then was stationed in Davisville, RI with the U.S. Navy SeaBees where he deployed in 1963 to McMurdo Station, Antarctica as a Morse Code/Radio operator. He returned to Rhode Island and transferred to the US Naval Facility at San Salvador, Bahamas in 1965 and was Honorably Discharged in 1966. Lou was extremely patriotic and very proud of his Naval service his entire life.

After returning to civilian life from the military, with a growing family, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad between Crowley and New Orleans, then later for Camco Wireline Services where he moved his young family to Lake Charles then transferred to Buras, LA. Several years later he hired on with Halliburton and moved his family back to Lake Charles where he continued to wear many hats with Halliburton and retired with over 25 of service in the oilfields of South Louisiana, Southeast Texas and the Gulf.

Unable to sit still after retirement, he obtained a Commercial Drivers License where he drove locally and cross country for several years. He eventually found a local position which better suited him in his semi-retirement years, not having to be away from home, driving for the Stella Maris Seafarers Center through the Diocese of Lake Charles, until the time of his full retirement.

Lou thoroughly enjoyed reading, gardening, deer hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons. He would spend countless hours studying and reading all things gardening and outdoors. His passion for, and success with vegetable gardening was without a doubt his favorite hobby.

He was a long time parishioner and past Lector at Saint Henry Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Charismatic Renewal and Christ The King Knights of Columbus Council 13931.

Lou is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Judith Hanks Richard of Lake Charles; their four children, Cindy Broussard (Blake) of Sunset, Janet Reed (Thomas) of Lake Charles, Mickey Richard (Maria) of Lake Charles, Kathryn Kadlubar (Bernie) of Houston, TX; ten grandchildren, Matthew Broussard, Morgan Broussard, Hannah LaCombe (Zack), Collin Reed (Erika), Michael Richard (Mary), Adam Richard (Alanna), William Richard (Adele), Sarah Richard, Drew and Emma Kadlubar; six great-grandchildren, Philip, Sophia, Camille, Melanie, Amelia and Parker; brothers and sisters-in-law Randy Hanks and Elaine Johnston Hanks, Dale and Elaine Hebert, and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Daniel Richard, his father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Gloria Hanks and nephew David Richard.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Calcasieu Community Care Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice.
