Lois Wheeler Lueg

June 20, 1924 — April 13, 2024

Lois Wheeler Lueg, our beloved Mother and Grammie, left this world to be with her Lord on April 13, 2024. Our precious Mom transitioned into our heavenly majestic garden surrounded by God’s creatures, whom she adored. Affectionately known to her friends as Loie, Mom passed away peacefully at King Richard Fidelis House, just 68 days shy of her 100th birthday.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin to Herbert Denny and Effie Anne Dunlap Orth, Lois attended the University of Wisconsin before moving to Lake Charles in 1947. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lois enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing Bridge. Her effervescent, infectious laughter, child-like enthusiasm, and keen sense of humor brought joy to so many. Lois was a woman of faith who gracefully persevered through the trials of life and embraced the joys of life, always reflecting the love of the Lord. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles for many years.

Lois is survived by her children whom she cherished: one son, Stephen Wheeler of North Little Rock, Arkansas; four daughters, Marcia Kathleen Wheeler of Shreveport, Claire Kinney Shaw of Baton Rouge, Heidi Wheeler Towns and husband Scott, also of Baton Rouge, and Allison Kelley and husband Tim of Dallas, Texas. Lois’ six grandchildren were the apple of her eye: Stephanie Wheeler, Meghan Matt, Jessica Schexnayder, Katelyn Guarisco, Christopher Kinney, and Melissa McBride. Lois also leaves behind eleven great grandchildren to cherish her memory: Lux Matt, Brendyn Kinney, Elikai Matt, Tallulah Matt, Arrow Matt, Poppy Schexnayder, Harrison Schexnayder, Dalton Guarisco, and Kenneth “Tripp” McBride, including two great grandchildren arriving soon, Lillian Guarisco and Collins McBride.

Lois was preceded in death by the father of her children, Robert Wheeler; husband, Dr. Carl Lueg; her parents; and two brothers, Robert, and Charles Orth.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will begin at 12:30 PM on Friday April 19, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, concluding with a Celebration of Lois’ life to begin at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Weldon Bares officiating. In accordance with her wishes, cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the caring, compassionate caregivers at King Richard Fidelis House and to our incredibly loving, kind forever friend, Linda Hoffpauir.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.
