Lona Faye Abraham, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Born on May 23, 1932, Faye spent most of her early years in Jefferson Island and French became her second language. In 1948, she graduated from New Iberia High School, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the All State Chorus. She also sang in a number of high school plays and enjoyed anything that involved singing. Later, Faye moved to Lake Charles where she resided the remainder of her life. It was there that she met and married Johnny Abraham in 1953. She was a loving and devoted wife who stood beside her husband and supported him as he owned and operated Abe's Grocery. Faye will be remembered by friends and family for her warmth, joy, and inspiration, as well as her fabulous Cajun and Lebanese cooking. However, most enduring will be the memory of her love of family and her faith. Family was her greatest pride and where she invested most of her love and time. She especially enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones around a good meal and lively conversation. This included any occasion but particularly on vacations and watching LSU football games. Faith in Jesus Christ was her greatest passion. Over the years, she reached out to others in various church ministries. She was involved in several Christian food outreach programs and was also part of the healing ministry at Christian World. She loved to share her faith and pray for those in need. As a result, she touched many lives. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Mark and his wife Gina, Joellen Bass and her husband Ed, Kathy Flavin and her husband Tim, Jim and his wife Missy, all of Lake Charles, and Scott and his wife Leslie of Houston; her sisters, Laurie Lee Domingue of Abbeville, Dianne Touchet of Lafayette and Barbara Saucier of New Iberia; and her brothers, Nelson Hebert, Jr. of Charenton and Ray Hebert of Franklin; fourteen grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, and her parents Laurie Broussard and Nelson Hebert. Faye was a member of Christian World, where a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Jerry Snider will officiate. Interment will be in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 13, from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorial donations in Faye's memory may be made to Christian World, 2001 East Gauthier Road, Lake Charles, LA 70607. The family extends their sincere gratitude to LeAnn Farque and Amedisys Hospice for the compassionate care given their loved one.
