Lonnie Joseph Neveu, 79, passed away in a local care facility on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in the company of his family. He was born on April 27, 1942, to Lionel and Teresa Neveu (née Delahoussaye), both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Lois Neveu (née Orsot) and daughter Pennie Neveu, both of Lake Charles, as well as his maternal aunt and uncle.
Lonnie was an avid gardener, forever tilling and tending his several plots to share the bounty with friends and family alike. He was the ultimate shade tree mechanic and did his best to encourage his wife and daughter to join in on the fun. (Thank you, Daddy, for teaching me to build a tool chest rather than a hope chest). He retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years of service and was a veteran of the US Army.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Msgr. Jace Eskind will serve as the Celebrant. Masks are strongly encouraged to help safeguard the health of all present. A private inurnment service will follow. Cremation and coordination of services has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
In lieu of flowers for his memorial service, the family will honor him by supporting The Prater Street Community Garden in Lake Charles. Contributions towards his memorial donation may be made at https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8FSoR0hUzd (Lonnie Neveu Memorial Community Garden Fund).
Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net.
