Lorita Hebert Dauphin

July 21, 1930 — April 20, 2024

Funeral services for Mrs. Bruce Dauphin, the former Lorita Hebert, will begin at 9:00 AM with a visitation, rosary beginning at 9:30, and a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Lafayette, Louisiana. Internment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana. Celebrant will be Fr. Trey Ange. Lorita Hebert Dauphin died on April 20, 2024, in her home at the age of 93 with her family by her side.

Lorita was the daughter of the late Joseph G. Hebert, Sr., and the former Mabel Ann Roussell.  She was a native of New Orleans and was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana from April 1954 until December of 2006. She then moved to Lake Charles after the death of her husband, Bruce, to be close to her daughter and her family.

Lorita graduated from SLI, formerly known as ULL, in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education.  She was a private piano teacher for more than 40 years.  During her professional career she was a member of the Lafayette Piano Teachers Association, for which she was a past president; a member of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association, the National Music Teacher Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota. Lorita was a founding member of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and played violin in the orchestra for the next 20 years. While living in Lafayette, she was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir.

Lorita was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Mee-Mee, as the children and grandchildren lovingly called her, found great joy in spending time with them, and helping them in any way at any time.

She found great comfort in her Catholic faith through the years.  She also found great satisfaction in her music, and after moving to Lake Charles, enjoyed teaching her own great-grandchildren and friends’ children.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Delahoussaye and her husband Glenn Delahoussaye of Lake Charles, La.  She is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney DesOrmeaux and her husband David, Chad Delahoussaye and his wife Mary, Brooke LeBlanc and her husband John,  Catherine Ange and her husband Kamon, Ben Delahoussaye, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Mrs. Adrienne Engelhardt, and one brother, Dr. Joseph Hebert Jr.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Delahoussaye, Chad Delahoussaye, Ben Delahoussaye, David DesOrmeaux, John LeBlanc, and Kamon Ange.

The family wishes to thank Home Instead and Heart of Hospice for the wonderful care that she received during her short illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, La. 70507
