Louis Peter Veron

Louis Peter Veron, 88, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at his son’s residence in Denham Springs, LA following a lengthy illness.

 

Born in Smoke Bend, Louisiana to Dyer and Edna Rodriguez Veron, Sr., Mr. Veron lived most of his life in Lake Charles. At age 14, he and his brothers opened Earl’s Grocery, later named Veron’s Grocery, where he worked as a butcher and in all phases of the store for twenty-five years. He then opened his own store, Veron’s Best Foods, which he operated for fourteen years before retiring. Mr. Veron thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, hitting two “holes in one” in his lifetime. He was a member of several local courses, including the Lake Charles Country Club, Mallard Cove, where he served as president for two years, Pine Shadows, where he served as a board member, and Chennault Golf Course, where in 1975 he served on the Advisory Committee.   He was a gentle man and a family man. Mr. Veron was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 17 years, Neva Tremie Veron; seven children, Vicki Ann Veron Lamendola and husband Jim of Mobile, Alabama, Barry Louis Veron of Crowley, Texas, Cami Leah Veron Owens and husband Butch of Mission, Kansas, Kirby Delmayne Veron and wife Ava of Gonzales, Louisiana, Dale Mitchell Veron and wife Vicky, Todd Byron Veron and wife Michelle, and Erin Wynelle Veron Theriot, all of Denham Springs, Louisiana; four step daughters, Peggy Cormier of Houston, Texas, Jenny Bertrand of Lafayette, Louisiana, Laura Pitre of Beaumont, Texas and Cathy Aguillard of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren with one more on the way.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George Vernon Veron, Belmont Veron, Delmayne Xavier Veron, Earl Ernest Veron, and Dyer Veron, Jr.; two sisters, Una Mae Veron Bonadona and Valerie Veron Branton.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Charles McMillin will officiate. Entombment will be at Consolata Cemetery. A rosary will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 5 p.m., with visitation to follow from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
