Loydel Spalding

Loydel Spalding, daughter of Ben and Lois Spalding of Maplewood, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023.  She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mercer and son-in-law, Steve Mercer of Sulphur, Louisiana; her sister, Monty S. Moss of Conroe, Texas; her nieces, Allison M. Barnes of Conroe, Texas and Jennifer M. Wright of Kingwood, Texas; her nephew, Joel T. Moss of Conroe, Texas; her great niece, Rachel Wright of Porter, Texas and her great nephew, Andrew Wright of Kingwood, Texas; and her extended family, Bryan S. Mercer, Bernadette M. Mercer, Samantha H. Mercer and Collin B. Mercer.

She was born in Ranger, Texas on November 4, 1936.  Ms. Spalding was a life-long resident of the Maplewood/Sulphur community, having resided there since 1946.  She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1955.  She was an amazing seamstress for friends and family.  Next to sewing, she loved working in her yard.  She was a dedicated employee of the Calcasieu Parish School system as a bookkeeper for twenty years.  After retiring, she became a financial assistant in private business for many years.  Ms. Spalding was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles.

Her Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, located at 812 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana 70601.  Rev. Weldon Bares will preside.  Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 Saturday morning until the start of the service at 11:00.  Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles.
