Lt. Col. Allan Lee Roach, 62, of Moss Bluff, LA died at 4:15 AM on Friday, January 28, 2011 in a local hospital.
Lt. Col. Roach was born February 18, 1948, raised, and educated in Indianapolis, IN. A graduate of Southport High School, Lt. Col. Roach received his Bachelor's Degree in Military Science from Purdue University and his Master's Degree in Psychology from Lawton Community College. During his younger years, he was an active Boy Scout, having attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He served twenty-three years in the U.S. Army having been an Airborne Ranger and retired at a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his military career, Lt. Col. Roach worked as a teacher for eighteen years in Acadia, Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes. Once he settled in Lake Charles, he served at McNeese State University as the Commanding Officer with the ROTC. Lt. Col. Roach enjoyed Mardi Gras, boating, water sports, and fishing. He was a devoted, accepting, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest times were shared with his grandchildren.
Lt. Col. Roach is survived by his sons, Michael Glen Roach and Matthew Wayne Roach and wife Christina, all of Moss Bluff; brothers, Darrell C. Roach, Jr. and wife Brenda and Rev. James E. Roach and wife Oneita, all of Bloomfield, IN; grandchildren, Victoria, Channing, Alex, Samantha, Christopher, Tyson, Patience, and Laila Roach and Gabrielle and Dominic Myers; his great friend, Lee English of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-nine years, Karon Roach; grandchild, Connor Roach; and parents, Darrell Christian and Fannie Mae Sturgeon Roach.
His memorial service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend James E. Roach will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the start of the service.
