Lucille Catherine Smith Sievert

Lucille Catherine Smith Sievert of Lake Charles died Monday, September 17, 2012.


Mrs. Sievert was born January 6, 1924 in St. Martinville, LA to William Isaac Smith and Jeanne Webre Smith.


She graduated high school in 1940 from Sacred Heart Academy in New Orleans and attained a B.S. in Sociology from Loyola University, New Orleans, LA. She then married Fred H. Sievert, Jr. May 31, 1947 and moved to Lake Charles in 1952.


Mrs. Sievert and her husband Fred, prominent local attorney, were charter members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish and participated in many church endeavors over the years. A long-time member of the Ladies Altar Society at OLQH, Lucille also helped establish and run the library at OLQH Family Life Center. In 1985, she was invested through knighthood into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem with the rank of Commander with Star. This order of knighthood, under the protection of the pope, brings with it a lifetime commitment to sustain and aid the charitable, cultural and social works and institutions of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land.


Mrs. Sievert was an accomplished seamstress and a member of the Sew-N-Sews. She was a talented artist and excelled in water color, ceramics and china painting. She was for many years a member of the Louisiana Organization of Porcelain Art Club (LOPAC).


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred. H. Sievert, Jr., sister Carmen Smith, R.S.C.J. (Religious of the Sacred Heart) and brother, Dr. William I. Smith, Jr.


She is survived by eight children: Jeanne Sievert (Deb King) of Fayetteville, AR;

Carmen Olivier (Lorrie) of Houston, TX; Lucille Kaub of Lake Charles; Adele Hamer (Dr. Doug) of Lake Charles; Paul Sievert (Emily) of Pasadena, TX; Ray Sievert (Nancy) of The Woodlands, TX; Norman Sievert (Allison) of Spokane, WA; and Anne Duhon (David) of Lake Charles; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 21, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Thursday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Friday will be from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.


Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, Jason Olivier, Mark Olivier, Jonathan Sievert, Kyle Sievert, Matt Kaub, Bob Sievert, David Paul Duhon and Alexander Duhon.


The family would like to thank Ruby Thierry for her devotion and friendship as caregiver to their mother, as well as the many angels at Resthaven Nursing Home who took such good care of her in the final year of life.
