Lucy Green Oakley, 89, was called to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Leonard and Annie May Hankins Green, Mrs. Oakley was a graduate of Ansley High School in Ansley, Louisiana and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. She received her Master’s Degree from McNeese State University. Mrs. Oakley moved to Lake Charles in 1948, where she was a teacher and counselor for the Calcasieu Parish School Board for twenty-four years and a member of the Louisiana Association of Retired Teachers. Mrs. Oakley was also a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, serving both as president and as secretary. She sang in the church choir and was also a member of the bell choir. She enjoyed antiquing, reading, needlework and jigsaw puzzles.
Mrs. Oakley is survived by her faithful husband of 66 years, Edward H. Oakley; two sons, Philip Oakley and wife Pam and Randy Oakley and wife Linda, all of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Jared Oakley and wife Elisa of Dry Creek, Amy Hennessey and husband Matt of Houston, and Ken Oakley and wife Sydna of Lake Charles; and ten great grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Weldon Bares will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. Private interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
The family would like to thank the Senior Circle for the purpose, joy, fellowship and encouragement which the Senior Circle provided their beloved wife and mother during the last three years of her life.
