Lunsford Gale Irwin, Jr.

Lunsford Gale Irwin, Jr., 74, passed into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Irwin was born on February 15, 1940 in Lake Charles, LA and was a lifelong resident of Iowa. He was a 1958 graduate of Iowa High School, and attended McNeese State University where he met the love of his life, Barbara O'Neal, who would later become his wife of fifty-three years. Lunny served our country honorable and faithfully in the United States Army. Mr. Irwin retired from Conoco following 32 years of loyal service. Throughout his life, Lunny enjoyed spending time outdoors. His most precious memories are moments spent with his family and grandchildren. Preceding Lunny in death are his beloved wife, Barbara Irwin, who passed away on July 14, 2014; and parents, Lunsford Sr. (Cotton) and Leila Fontenot Irwin. Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his children, Troy Irwin and wife Ollie, of Iowa, Brandon Irwin, of Lake Charles, and Heath Irwin and wife Chassidy of Geismar, LA; grandchildren, Amber, Natalie, Lindsey and Peyton Irwin; and mother-in-law, Jackie O'Neal of Lake Chalres. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Brandon Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
