Lynette Ecker Morton, 91, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:40 PM on Sunday, July 15, 2012 in a local care facility.
Mrs. Morton was born August 31, 1920 in Vinton, LA and has lived in Lake Charles most of her life. She graduated with her BA degree in Education from the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette. She taught in Calcasieu Parish for seven years, spending three years at LaGrange Elementary and four years at the 4th Ward Elementary School, both in Lake Charles. A pioneer Lake Charles family, she was also a member of the Justice Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Morton was a charter member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the United Methodist Women's Circle and a very active member of the church. She enjoyed traveling and participating in church activities. She was happiest when she was enjoying dinner with her two sons and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Morton is survived by her sons, Roland Morton, Jr. and wife Daphne Morton and David S. Morton, all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Dr. Craig Morton and wife April of Lake Charles, Keith Morton and wife Christy of Houston, TX, Lori Morton Sansivirini and husband Jorge of Lake Charles, and Brett Morton of Baton Rouge; and six great-grandchildren, Layla, Alissa, Ella, Ian, Anna, and Carlo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland T. Morton; parents, Solomon "Sollie" and Rose Ecker; and brother, John V. Ecker.
Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church. Reverend Henry Bowdon will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 12:00 PM until the start of the service.
