Mrs. Mabel Coleman Davis, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mabel was born on May 14, 1927 in Branch, Louisiana to Alphonse and Emma Richard Coleman. Mabel moved to Lake Charles with her husband, Vincent Davis. To this union, four children were born. After her husband's death, she attended and graduated from SoWela Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked many years at St. Patrick's Hospital, Nursing Homes, and Private Duty. Born and reared as a Methodist, she was affiliated with Maryland Chapel CME, Carter Chapel CME Churches and a long-time member of Reeves Temple CME Church. She belonged to the Pride of Reeves, the Missionary Society, and Senior Ministry. She was recently honored as a 50+ years member to the Prince Hall Chapter 37 Order of Eastern Stars, and the Reeves Temple Missionary Society. She was also a past member of Post 551 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mabel leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Esther (Griffin) Vincent of Lake Charles, Phyllis Jackson of New Orleans, La, and Emma Johnson of Jacksonville, Alabama. She is also survived by three sisters, Emma Wilridge Lee of Beaumont, TX, Eugenia "Jean" England of Houston, TX, and Hattie Churchill of Jacksonville, Illinois.1 Daughter in Law, Eva Davis of Iowa, LA; 6 granddaughters, Kimberly Jackson of New Orleans, LA, Jessica Johnson of Jacksonville, Alabama, Stephanie Davis and Tara (Carl) Thomas of Lake Charles, LA, Gaynell Davis of Lafayette, LA, and Trena (Eric) Arceneaux of Orange, TX; 4 grandsons, Kenrick Jackson of New Orleans, LA, Jermaine Washington and Randall (Bridget) Davis of Lake Charles, and Kary (Angela) Vincent of Port Arthur, TX; 13 great grandchildren and 4 great -great grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews, god children and other family and friends. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband and parents; sons Robert and Curley "Nick" Davis; Brothers Alphonse and Lennie Coleman; 6 sisters in law and 7 brothers in law; 1 son in law; 1 grandson. Special Thanks to Heart of Hospice, Petra, Julie, Carly and Katie, Dr. Hilma Green and Dr. Jude Agendia, Rev. Barbara Tousand and Rev. Dr. H Leon Williams Sr. for your care, concern, love and support; and Special Friends, Annie Matthews and Barbara Ellis. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Reeves Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Prince Hall Mason Chapter 37 Order of Eastern Stars will perform their service at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. H Leon Williams Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
