Mabel DeJean Pearce, 93, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:18 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in her residence. Mrs. Pearce was born on September 5, 1922 in Eunice, LA. She spent her early childhood and grew up in Hayes and was a graduate of Bell City High School. Mrs. Pearce met her husband when she moved to Lake Charles and raised her family here. She was owner and operator of Pearce's Beauty Salon on Bilbo Street for more than 45 years. Mrs. Pearce was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception most of her life. She will be remembered for her cooking skills and making each holiday special for her family. Mrs. Pearce enjoyed family gatherings and cherished her time with them. Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Hugh E. Pearce, Jr. (Katherine) of Lafayette and John K. Pearce (Joy) of Houston; a daughter, Shirley P. Smith (late Judge Chris Smith, III) of Leesville; a brother, Jimmy DeJean (Elaine) of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Christie Smith, IV (Christina), Pearce Smith (Sushma), Hugh Pearce, III, Erin Johnston (Ryan), Gabriel Pearce, and Jessica Bammel (David); and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Hugh Edwin Pearce, Sr. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 20, 2015 in the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. Rev. Kenneth Michiels will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM. Pallbearers for Mrs. Pearce's service will be Gabriel Pearce, Edwin Pearce Smith, Christie Smith III, Brian Matte, Carl Forrest, Danny Forrest, David Forrest, and Charles DeJean.
