Mack D. Hooper, 74, of Westlake died on Monday, September 23, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hooper was born on August 5, 1939 in Lake Charles and was a lifelong resident of the Lake Charles area. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 21 years of service in Fort Polk as a drill sergeant. Mr. Hooper served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Earline Hooper; four daughters, Tammy Chaumont and husband Anthony of Westlake, Peggy Hooper of Westlake, Sondra Hooper and companion Brent Slayter of Lake Charles, and Penny LeBleu and husband Durwood of Sulphur; a step daughter, Joy Miller and husband Daniel of Roanoke; a brother, Harry Hooper and wife Ophelia of Moss Bluff; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Tommy LeBlanc and his daughter, Mary Jane of Westlake; and Mack's best friend, Ronny Lovett of Big Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Albert Hooper; and six brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Andrew Martin and David Murdock will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Hayes Cemetery in Hayes, LA. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the services.
