Madeline C. Richard

Madeline C. Richard, age 82, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on August 12, 2022 at 12:12 a.m.

Madeline was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Nick and Elda Console.  She graduated from LaGrange Senior High School, class of 1957, and Sowela Technical College as a Certified Surgical Tech.  She retired from Lake Charles Memorial Hospital then worked for Humana Lake Area Hospital until 1996.  She will always be known as the scrub tech that would glove a surgeon’s left hand first instead of his right hand. 

As a devoted single mother of five, Madeline was always ready to take on extra call time when the opportunity arose.  She was a wonderful mother, leading by example when it came to her Catholic faith, compassion, humor and the care she showed not only to her family but to anyone who met her.  She enjoyed playing bingo, taking watercolor classes by Nancy Melton, attending McNeese football games and collecting jewelry.  And she was very proud of her many medals as a participant in the Senior Olympics.  She was a fierce competitor!

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, sister Carol Dykes and she is finally reunited with her son Nick John who was taken way too soon in 2003.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother Nick “Buddy” Console and his wife Pam, her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) R. Russell, grandchildren Timothy, Trevor and Madeline Russell, son, Mark Alfred Richard, son, Kirk Richard, son, Tony Richard, 6 additional grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. 

The family will welcome friends at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Lake Street on Monday, August 15^th.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. 

The family would like to acknowledge the selfless care and compassion of the Elara Caring Home Health, Heart of Hospice, Grand Lake Cameron Parish Council on Aging and Mary Dahlen, NP. 

In lieu of flowers, Madeline’s family invites you to make a donation in her honor to Catholic Charities or St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Big Lake.
