Madlyn Fontenot

 Madlyn Fontenot, 82, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 at her residence.

Born September 25, 1938 in Edenton, NC, Mrs. Fontenot graduated from Lake Charles High School and McNeese State University.  She enjoyed working as a teacher at Nelson Elementary, where she taught second grade for a number of years.  She taught both her students and her family through her example.  Mrs. Fontenot married the love of her life, Dowell “Doc” Fontenot in 1961.  She enjoyed sharing her love of music with her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking, especially for her family and friends.  She always supported her husband throughout the years with his career at McNeese State University and his private practice.  She will be remembered for her love of people and the good that she always saw in others.

Mrs. Fontenot is survived by her daughter, Dana Fontenot Sorrells of Lake Charles; son, Brett Fontenot and wife Sylvia of Dallas, TX; sisters, Billie Speight and husband W.O. of Abilene, TX and Emily Busby of Marlton, NJ; and three grandchildren, Chandler Sorrells, Zachary Fontenot and Camille Fontenot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dowell “Doc” Fontenot in 2007; her parents, Charles and Mamie Russell; and two sisters.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  A gathering of family members and friends will be at Our Lady Queen of Heaven on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the start of the service.  **Masks and social distancing required**

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Dr. Craig Greenman, Dr. Ronald Lewis, St. Joseph’s Hospice, LeeAnna Stevens and all of Mrs. Fontenot’s caregivers, especially Judy Charles and Mona Williams for the excellent care given.
