Madolyn Osborne Bowman

January 9, 1928 — November 3, 2021

Madolyn Osborne Bowman, 93, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 12:48 PM on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in her residence.

Mrs. Bowman was born January 9, 1928 in Little Rock, AR.  She met the love of her life, James Henry Bowman, Jr. while attending Louisiana Tech University and they were married on October 6, 1950 in El Dorado, Ark and began their amazing life together for the next 55 years.  Our mother never met a stranger, after moving to Ponca City, OK in 1953, where our father began his long career with Conoco, she was invited to attend her first Newcomers meeting.  When the meeting was over, she invited the entire Newcomer’s club to their home for dinner.  Those members became lifelong friends and part of the family.  She traveled with her husband’s career and finally settled in Lake Charles in 1967.  She worked as the bookkeeper for G & G Valve for a number of years.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active with various roles throughout the years, including the Assistant Christian Education Director, United Methodist Women, MYF, and served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.  She also served as a chaperone for the Wesleyan Bell Choir when her children were younger, was a Pink Lady for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, volunteered at Abraham’s Tent, Faith and Friends, was a member of PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) and was past President of the Louisiana Choral Foundation.  She also had a great love for dancing, from Square Dancing to Round Dancing to Ballroom dancing, and served as an officer for the Swinging Rebels.

Mrs. Bowman was an avid sports fan and always supported her children and grandchildren’s activities and the schools they represented.  She enjoyed playing golf, watching tennis and golf and loved the Astros, the Saints and anything LSU.  Our parents attended every LSU football game, either home or away, while Jimmy was playing football.  Mrs. Bowman lived life to the fullest and had so many passions that ranged from sports, cooking, traveling, especially to Colorado, fishing, to ice and roller skating.  She also had a great love for sewing and made many wonderful dresses and robes throughout her years.  She could frequently be found playing card games, dominoes, and her favorite, Bridge with family and friends.

Mrs. Bowman is survived by her children, Annellen “Anne” Blume and husband Steven of Carlyss, LA, Kathy Bowman Johnson of Lufkin, TX, and Dr. James H. Bowman, III and wife Rachel of Chelsea, AL; grandchildren, Sarah Blume of Baton Rouge, Johnathan Blume and wife Tristan of Sulphur, Kimberly Callison of Lubbock, TX, David A.
